![]() While I've not had a chance to play the game online yet (it only just launched), offline play has been a joy. ![]() It's a subtle change, but also helps a lot in messier three or four-player matches. Get donked by an early-game slow pitch and you'll still be able to fight on. Now, that only happens once the ball is properly up to speed. Probably the biggest of those changes is the health bars. There's a handful of new characters (including one - winkingly named Jet - who looks like she's straight out Jet Set Radio), the introduction of health bars so rounds don't end on the first fumble, and an item roulette system that throws some curve-balls into the mix. ![]() While purely cosmetic, the move to cel-shaded 3D works marvellously, somehow looking every bit as sharp as the old sprites and just as expressive. While it still uses the same controls and fighting format as the original, Lethal League Blaze introduces more new elements than I was expecting. Below, a trailer with some funky fresh beats, a peek at how intense high-level play can be, and some quick thoughts from the preview build I've been in the batting cage with. Its sequel, Lethal League Blaze, launched today replacing sprites with 3D models, fleshing out its world with a branching single-player story mode and bulking out its local and online multiplayer with new options. As much as I am a true fan of the LL concept and would do anything to see the game succeed I'd recommend finding a different game if you want a true comp timesink to play.An indirectly fought Smash Bros? Perhaps an extreme sports pong for up to four players? Team Reptile's Lethal League is still a multiplayer fave in many circles. With around 4,500 hours across both games, global leader in hours. As much as I am a true fan of the LL concept and would do anything to see the game succeed I'd recommend finding a different game if you want a true comp timesink to play. It's a great fun game and takes plenty of skill to learn to play, but at the bleeding edge of the metagame, once your fundamentals and tech are down It's just a pointless rng. So that it works in favor of the less skilled players it's based on rps principles at the top metagame which everyone high level hates.īlaze Is one of those games which was designed to be "fun for everyone" and in doing so burned all the good players and ppl who sank hours. Because it's not going to ever be fixed or grow it's core base because you have completely inept low tier people balancing the game. ![]() ![]() We practically need to croudfund and produce the games competitve successor ourselves. mostly it's just ppl who play it as a Saturday night beer drinking with friends game. So that's where all the effort is going now.īasically, with the top metagame balance on blaze in an utterly pathetic state, don't expect a revival. There won't be a 3rd anytime soon because TR just announced their new game and it's based on jsr and is focused around single player story. The highest level competitive play is sorta dead, it's mostly viewed as a party game which alienated a ton of the hardcore players, and ever since the game has been suffering.
